Great Expectations

Debbie wrote a post yesterday that prompted the thoughts in the back of my mind to spring to the front. I have always had high expectations for myself. Typically I don’t project these expectations onto others, and having high expectations for myself has not really been a problem. But when it comes to motherhood… especially, I think,… Continue reading Great Expectations

In Love

I’m in love. With my son. Little Man. He is SO adorable. He interacts…he rolls…he squeals in delight…he cackles like a dolphin…he motorboats…he eats well…he smiles at me…he reaches for me…he gives me kisses… He’s the greatest. Now. If only he’d sleep more than three hours in a row. *grin*

The Daily Grind

I haven’t posted in almost two weeks. I’ve been caught up in the daily grind of life. I don’t say that as a bad thing…it’s just life 🙂 We travelled to Detroit over Memorial Day Weekend. My hubby likes to leave at the crack of dawn, so we were at my brother’s house by noon… Continue reading The Daily Grind

Mommy Tidbits

One thing that I take great comfort in is the number of women who blog about being adoptive mommies and how it took them some time to be “comfortable” with the mommy label. Don’t get me wrong – we love our children to the utmost, but it was…weird…to suddenly be labeled “mommy.” I struggled with… Continue reading Mommy Tidbits

Mama Bear

That’s me. S told me one time on the phone that I would become a Mama Bear. She was right. Easter dinner. Tons of family. Family that has been fractured since my grandfather’s death last May. Family that includes grandpa’s girlfriend – who only about 1/3 of us really like (but she’s rich, right, so… Continue reading Mama Bear

It’s an Easter Miracle!!!

He slept!! From 9:30pm until 4:00am … straight through!! Woke up at 4:00. I tried the Baby Whisperer trick & gave him a pacifier. Oops. At 4:30 it was apparent food was necessary. 4 ounces and 30 minutes later…he was out. And slept until 7:30am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For those you playing along, that’s 9 hours of sleep!… Continue reading It’s an Easter Miracle!!!

Mommy Myths

Warning! This post is very truthful. Some will say harsh, negative, blah blah blah…but it’s the God’s honest truth in our house…. Things people will say…and the truth! 1) Sleep when the baby sleeps          Okay…some people are apparently designed to sleep in 1 1/2 – 2 hour stretches mutliple times each day. I am not… Continue reading Mommy Myths

Mommy Initiation

Yesterday: two 45 minute screaming sessions + two 2 hour naps on mommy + refusing to be held by daddy for very long + wanting to be held by mommy. all. day. + refusal to eat very much + tylenol = 1 trip to the doctor today (and one very worn out mommy last night). Today: trip… Continue reading Mommy Initiation

Why Is It Thursday?

Thursdays have been important days during our adoption journey. See this blog post for an almost complete list. And once again, two important events have occurred on the last two Thursdays. Last Thursday (March 4) we finalized our adoption of Little Man. Yes, it happened that quickly. Where we live, the birthparents sign their TPR… Continue reading Why Is It Thursday?

Long Days

It’s 3:30 am where I live. Little Man is (finally) asleep (again) across my lap. He’s had a growth spurt. Or scary dreams. Or something. He keeps waking up every two hours. He’s not hungry. He’s tired. As am I. But try explaining THAT to a seven week old. On top of that, this particular… Continue reading Long Days
