I’m fairly certain I went to Seminary because God knew who my child would be. The questions that he asks day after day after day are astounding to me. This book helps. A lot.
What I cannot do is boil down free will or predestination/election to a simple, child-friendly explanation that doesn’t pit God against family members.
But my son can never remove his skin, and he never made the choice to be born Black. He didn’t choose to have people at our recent Freedom Festival parade skip over him for the second year in a row and not give him candy while the white kids on either side of him got handfuls handed to them.
