7 Quick Takes Friday (v. 4)

— 1 —

This has been a crazy week. We were camping last Saturday until Tuesday. We left on Tuesday for the three hour drive home and were about 25 cars back of a fatal accident. We sat for over an hour on the highway while the accident was dealt with. It was very sad. We later found out it was a husband and wife from Florida, traveling in separate vehicles. She was the second car, had some sort of medical incident, left the road at a high rate of speed and hit a tree. The car burst into flames. Imagine that poor husband, seeing all of that in the rearview mirror. It was sobering.

I got a job. What?!?! Yes. I haven’t been looking for a job at all. At. All. But I have been missing teaching, and I have been talking to God quite a bit about how I feel I am not fully using my knowledge and teaching gifts He has given me. So apparently He decided I needed a job. Enter a friend from Seminary, who is now the Academic Dean at a small Bible college near here (near = two hours away). They are starting a program for women (think preaching, but NOT) and want all women faculty. Guess who got hired Wednesday? Yup. We are planning the degree this fall and launching classes next fall. The best part? I will only have to drive down one day each week to teach, and family is already stepping up to keep Little Man, so we don’t have to worry about daycare or not home schooling!!

Because of the above long drive and the interview on Wednesday, and because I had Bible study yesterday, there was no home schooling this week. Oops! So the first week was great, and this week was nothing. I mean, I count the nature walks we took camping and the books we read, but there was no “formal” home schooling this week. (is it “home school” or “homeschool”?) So we begin again next week with the letter “C”.

Tomorrow night Keith and I are getting all dressed up (think formal gown and suit) to attend a fundraising gala for a local ministry that rescues girls from the sex trade. We love this ministry and believe in all they do, but this is the first time we’ve gone to the gala. I feel like Cinderella. I have a borrowed dress, I don’t currently own any lipstick that really works on my face, and I have to wear heels. I’m afraid I will be mingling with “the rich” and comes across as totally stupid. First world problems, huh? Oh, and we were invited to sit at a table, so we didn’t even have to pay for tickets. Luckily the silent auction items start as low as $10.

Then we are spending the night at my mom’s while she stays with Little Man. And going out for a fancy schmancy lunch on Sunday (for which we have scrimped and saved) to celebrate our 10th anniversary. Which was in May. Oh well, better late than never. Then we get to go to something called “Dynamic Marriage.” It’s a nine week Bible study designed for couples to strengthen their marriages. We’re pretty excited to have a date night every Sunday for the next nine weeks 🙂

I’m running out of things to say. Oh, speaking of running, I am waaaaaaaay behind in my marathon training. I came down with some sort of chest cold about ten days ago and couldn’t hardly walk without erupting into a coughing fit. Tomorrow I am back at it with a 75 minute run. Here’s hoping I don’t die before my chance to dress up all fancy.

Next week we are staying home, except for Mom to Mom on Thursday. This week has about overwhelmed this introverted mama and her introverted little guy. What are you doing next week?
