If you have never read the book “Love and Respect,” and you are married, do yourself a favor. Go get it. Read it. Live it.
It is, hands down, the best book I have ever read on the difference between men and women.
Which is handy in raising a boy.
Typical conversation at our house:
N: Mama, come sit in here with me.
Me: What are you doing?
N: Just come watch this with me. (watch this, watch me, listen to this, listen to me)
Me: Do you want me to help you?
N: No, just come be with me.
Men desire side by side fellowship. Your husband, and your son, simply want you in the same area they are. They don’t necessarily want your interaction – they just want your presence.
My son just wants me wherever he is. He doesn’t want me doing laundry, or taking a shower, or working in the other room. He wants me in the same room as him. He doesn’t necessarily want me playing trains with him, but he wants me to watch him play trains.
I have noticed the more time I devote to this side by side fellowship, with either my husband OR my son, the better our relationship seems to be.
Try it.Â
And read the book!!
