I cannot believe the first week of 2013 is already in the books! We have had quite the week.
Sunday, we all overslept. Yes, Little Man slept until 8:45! He didn’t go to sleep Saturday night until 10:45, but slept all the way through. Since we aren’t used to Sunday morning church anymore, and because we never set our alarm (courtesy of LM’s sleep issues), we missed first service. Then I made pancakes, and suddenly we missed second service as well. Oops. After breakfast, Keith packed up and drove an hour south to dig my aunt out of her 13″ of snow at her way off the beaten path house. We finished up the day with naps and then pizza & movie night.
(and LM quit saying, “mommy hold you” and started saying, “mommy hold me.” I have to admit…I cried a little)
Monday, Keith was off again for the holiday. We bummed around a bit, hit up the grocery & hardware stores and napped. LM again slept 10:30 to 8:30 and took an almost three hour nap! We celebrated NYE at my dad and stepmom’s house, with yummy appetizers, popcorn and “Cars.” We got home late and LM didn’t fall asleep until 12:30 am!!
Tuesday, the boys slept until about 9. I got up and made cinnamon rolls, and then we all headed to our friends’ home for a small group reunion. Our small group of six couples (and FIFTEEN children) used to meet three or four times a month. Sadly, that doesn’t happen anymore, but what a wonderful way to start the new year! We had a pitch in breakfast and let the kids play while we caught up. Home for naps, then I was able to go see “Les Mis” and have dinner with some girlfriends from church. The boys played in the snow and then hung out with another family victim to mom’s night out š
Wednesday, LM begged to stay home. So we did. Pajamas, videos, cleaning, snacks, thee hour nap….all good. Then Keith returned to working a regular schedule. Little Man totally melted down. It was so sad. He sobbed hysterically for daddy for over an hour. He finally fell asleep about 10:45.
Thursday LM refused to nap. Flat out wouldn’t close his eyes. So we ran errands in the afternoon. And he was asleep by 8:30!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Friday he slept until 8:15!!!!!!!!! What?!?!?!?!? Have we turned a sleep corner? Dare I hold my breath that we have suddenly achieved the infamous preschool twelve hour sleep? (to be fair, he did wake up at 4am, claiming “all done sleeping.” ummm…..nope. I changed his diapers and put him in bed with me where he fell back to sleep).
Well…we got up and had breakfast/playdate with two of my girlfriends and their daughters. Nothing like an almost three year old boy to ruin the plans of three tween girls š
No nap again yesterday. He made it through thirty minutes of quiet time before we both gave up, and he fell asleep during our nightly cuddle in mommy’s bed while watching a video routine. Alseep before 7:45. He did cry out a few times, and wanted to get up for the day at 2:30 am, but I got him back to sleep until 7.
So it’s been an eventful week here. I am not sure I want to give up daily naps, but if the trade off is a few hours totally alone in the evening, I will take it. Today we plan to disassemble Christmas, and I hope to put in a little “quiet time/ reading area” for the boy. Wise homeschooling friends have encouraged me to maintain a few hours of quiet time each day, for my sanity and Little Man’s sanity. No sleep is required, but quiet and calm will be!
How was your first week of 2013?
